VALE Michael Perry
A/Professor Michael Perry passed away on Friday morning, February 8, 2025. Mike was on palliative care for cancer, spending the last few weeks with his family.
Mike was a warm, welcoming and terrifically enthusiastic man, a great contributor to the development of microcirculation research in Australia and the development of ANZMS over many decades. Mike was one of the early members of ANZMS and Society President in 2001, when the Society hosted the successful 7th World Congress for Microcirculation in Sydney. The Society’s premier award at our scientific meetings is named in his honour. Mike was also Head of the School of Physiology and Pharmacology at UNSW from 2000 – 2004. Mike was a terrifically active researcher with a broad range of interests, an expert in intravital microscopy with some pioneering work in modulation of capillary permeability and the role of the endothelium in inflammatory responses. Mike was also a keen medical educator with a particular interest in haemodynamics. He was an extraordinary person and he will be missed.
There will be a funeral service on Friday morning, 14 Feb, 10 AM in the Magnolia Chapel at Macquarie Park, Sydney (details in Sydney papers on Wednesday).
Mike requested no suits, and a touch of blue.
It will be live streamed via zoom.
