David Garlick (1933-2002), a renowned microcirculationist founded of the Australia and New Zealand Microcirculation Society. He remained heavily involved with the society until 1999.
In 1980 David organised the first meeting of the Australia and New Zealand Microcirculation Society at Little Bay in Sydney.
The second meeting of the Society he organised at Leura in the Blue Mountains. This was a satellite of the IUPS meeting held in Sydney in August 1983.
A highlight of the ANZMS, under the leadership of Congress President Associate Professor Michael Perry, was being chosen to host the 2001 7th World Congress for Microcirculation in Sydney. The Congress had 35 symposia covering all aspects of microvascular research. For such a small
society, we should be very proud
of the high standard we
achieved.
